“We have a seeded self that begins to germinate at birth. Our true goal in life is to become that self.” – Michael Meade
Marisa is an emotional, intense, goofy human person who is a human who is a person who is a seeker. Marisa seeks reality in its transcendent state, in its primal state, in its balance between stillness and movement. She seeks the light in the darkness, and looks for the darkness in the light. And Marisa makes music, and she sings. And she is I.
In my work as a singer and teacher, I am looking for what is authentic and alive, borne of spontaneous impulses and a healthy, responsive body. In my work as a composer of music, how can I bring the invisible realms of the cosmos into conversation with the inner realms of our minds, hearts and bodies?
I believe in learning and in knowledge. As Erich Fromm, one of my heroes, wrote: “Knowing does not mean to be in possession of the truth; it means to penetrate to the surface and to strive critically and actively in order to approach truth ever more closely.”
